I think that it is necessary to post up this as more Chinese are getting the offer to study matriculation program. Why matriculation? We can go for STPM which has a better option as if we score well, we can go oversea but what if we can't? We can go for A-level or SAM which most student prefer but how about the vitamin M (money) for certain students? The story below was what I go through before and after entering matriculation..
As usual, applying scholarships from different college, agency and organization is the utmost important task to do after SPM, and that was what I did. When I was Form 5, I got the scholarship offer from Taylor to study A-level but I gave up as it was too little, I gonna pay a lot. Furthermore, I know that I am going to study medicine and it is one of the most expensive courses, so I was wondering what should I do after completing my A-level.
Then, I decided to enter Form 6 as that's the only choice I can go for ( it's before I knew that I had been chosen to study Matriculation ). But things changed after I got the offer to study matriculation. My teachers advised me to go for it if I want to study in local university as it is the easiest path. And the most solid reason was that I got JPA IPTA scholarship. Getting JPA IPTA scholarship means that I gonna study my pre-u program in matriculation college before entering local university. I was quite disappointed at that time as for me getting this kind of offer was like nothing at all as most of my friends got the offer to study overseas and private university (IPTS). Anyway, it's still better than not getting anything.
But after one year of study in Pahang Matriculation College, I am so glad that I made this decision. The life in Matriculation is not as bored as you think, the life there is so exciting and busy if you get involved in the activities held there. The lecturers are good and some even too generous.
Thanks to my Maths lecturer who motivated me the most. She is so pro in Maths and her technique of teaching is so special that made all the students respect and love her. Another lecturer that I respect the most is my sem 2 bio lecturer, a Malay lady. Honestly, I hated her at first as she likes to talk and talk and explain and explain till overtime. The worst thing was that our bio tutorial class was on the last period which means that our class gonna stay in the tutorial room listening to her talk while other classes can go back to hostel. But later, her effort in guiding and helping students make me respect her. She's so dedicated in teaching. And thanks to her, I can score so well in my bio paper in PSPM 2 (I believe that I scored better than sem 1).
Another interesting story will be making new friends there. Some of us will think that living in a Malay environment is so uncomfortable but please put away this thinking. Some Malays are so kind and even helpful than Chinese. The most valuable experience is that you will meet new friends from different states, background, religion and so on. So, please don't keep complaining that life in matric is so bored. You are what you think. Think positively will make you feel better.
Another advice for you guys is that please get involved in the activities held there. You are not there just for study, you are there to gain new experiences in organizing events. The event that most matric Chinese students will carry out is Chinese New Year celebration or Tang lung festival. You have to introduce your culture to other races so that they can have a better understanding on you. Moreover, these events will generate unity among Chinese students and in some cases, unity among different races students. It's fun!
I believe that study is not a major problem for you as the syllabus is not that hard. So, you gonna enjoy living and playing there. Or else, you will regret being in Matriculation.
Lastly, please think twice before you wanna quit this program. You are chosen to study here and out there there are so many students keep appealing to study in Matriculation. If you are so reluctant to study in Matriculation, please do not apply for it, you are wasting the places. And sorry if my words hurt you or make you feel so uncomfortable ( my english is not that good).
